## In short

- A free Edge 1 Step $100K CFD account for 14 days, under the paid rules, at no cost.
- Target $10,000, Max Daily Loss $4,000, static Max Loss $7,500, and three profitable days of $500 to pass.
- It never funds and never pays out. A pass gives a personal 20% code for a paid CFD evaluation, valid for 30 days.
- One per trader, after identity verification is approved. There is no futures trial.

The WhitePips free trial is a free Edge 1 Step $100K CFD account that runs for 14 days under the same rules as a paid Edge 1 Step. It never becomes a funded account and never pays out; if you pass it, you receive a personal code for 20% off a paid CFD evaluation, valid for 30 days. There is one trial per trader, it starts once your identity verification is approved, and there is no futures trial.

That makes it a practice run on the paid rulebook, not a way to earn. This article sets out what the trial includes, the figures it is measured against, and what it does not do.

## What do you get with the free trial?

- An Edge 1 Step account with a $100,000 starting balance, traded on MetaTrader 5.
- 14 days, counted from the moment you press Start free trial, not from the day you signed up.
- The same profit target, the same loss limits and the same dashboard as a paid Edge 1 Step.
- Nothing to pay. The trial is issued at $0 and needs no card.

The MetaTrader 5 login arrives by email and appears under Accounts on your dashboard, where the account is named Free Trial.

## Which rules apply during the trial?

Every rule of the $100K [Edge 1 Step](https://whitepips.com/cfds/ch_one_step) evaluation, as published on the plan:

- **Profit Target:** $10,000 (10%).
- **Max Daily Loss:** $4,000 (4%), measured from the day's opening balance, which is the previous day's closing balance at 17:00 New York, open losses included. Reaching it ends the account.
- **Max Loss:** $7,500 (7.5%), static, so the floor stays at $92,500 for the life of the account. Reaching it ends the account.
- **Max. Exposure:** $1,250,000 (1,250%) of open positions. Going over is a warning, not a breach. If the account is in profit at that moment, the profit is reset to the starting balance, with profitable days kept; a second breach closes the account.
- **Min Profitable Days:** 3 days of +0.5% or more, which is $500, to pass.
- **Commission:** forex $5, metals $6 and energies $6 per lot, round turn; indices and stocks free; crypto 0.06% of the trade value.
- **Weekend Holding:** on an account without the add-on, trades still open at 4:45 PM New York time on Friday are closed by the system. The first time is a warning; the second closes the account.
- **Expert advisors and trade copiers:** allowed when they are your own, as on every CFD plan.
- **Overnight holding:** allowed.

Each rule is explained in plain words, with a picture, on the [trading rules](https://whitepips.com/rules) page.

## How do the numbers work on a $100K trial?

The trial starts at $100,000. To pass, the closed balance must reach $110,000 with no positions open, and at least three trading days must each have closed at +$500 or more. Reaching $110,000 on the second day with only one qualifying day means the pass waits until two more are done, and the 14 days keep running.

The daily floor moves with the previous close. If Monday closes at $101,800, Tuesday's floor is $101,800 minus $4,000, which is $97,800. If equity touches $97,800 at any moment on Tuesday, even on an open trade that later recovers, the account ends. The Max Loss floor does not move: it stays at $92,500 however high the balance goes first.

Sizing follows from those two numbers. Risking $500 a trade, 0.5% of the account, it takes eight losing trades in a row to reach the $4,000 daily limit and fifteen to reach the $7,500 Max Loss. Risking $2,000 a trade, two losses use the whole day's allowance. The [position size calculator](https://whitepips.com/tools/position-size-calculator) turns a dollar risk and a stop distance into a lot size.

Exposure is the third check. Ten standard lots of EUR/USD is about $1,000,000 of notional, so the trial's $1,250,000 allows roughly eleven to twelve standard lots open at once, depending on the exchange rate. Commission is part of every trade's result: one standard lot of EUR/USD opened and closed costs $5, and it counts toward the target and the loss limits like any other cost.

## How is the trial different from a demo account?

A demo account, at a broker or on a platform, is a practice balance with no consequences: no profit target, no loss limit that ends it and usually no end date. You can lose half of it, top it up and carry on. That is useful for learning the platform, and less useful for learning whether you can trade inside a prop firm's rules.

The trial is measured. The daily floor and the static floor are enforced, an exposure breach is recorded as a warning, a Friday position on an account without the Weekend Holding add-on is closed by the system, and reaching the target with three profitable days is recorded as a pass. Every WhitePips account is simulated, so the difference is not the prices. It is that the rules apply and the outcome counts for something, even if that something is a discount rather than a payout.

## What happens if you pass the trial?

The trial ends there. A free trial never funds or pays out, so passing it retires the account instead of issuing a funded one. You are told by a dashboard notice and by email, and a personal discount code is created for you: 20% off a paid CFD evaluation, applied at checkout, for the next 30 days.

On the current board, 20% off a $100K Edge 1 Step at $646 is $129.20, so you would pay $516.80. On a $10K Edge 1 Step at $114 it is $22.80, so $91.20. Under the Terms, unless a promotion says otherwise, a code comes off the first account in an order only, not add-ons, cannot be combined with other offers and has no cash value. Because the code is personal, publishing or passing it on counts as abuse of a promotion.

## What is the free trial not?

- **It is not a funded account.** It never pays out, whatever its result.
- **It is not on futures.** The trial is CFDs only; there is no futures trial.
- **It is not repeatable.** One per trader. Opening further accounts to get a promotion again is prohibited conduct under the Terms.
- **It is not an easier version.** The targets and limits are those of the paid $100K Edge 1 Step.
- **It is not a forecast.** Passing the trial does not mean a paid evaluation will be passed. Past simulated performance is not indicative of future results, and trading leveraged products can lose money.

## Who can start a free trial, and how?

Any trader who has not had one, once their identity is verified. Verification comes first so that one person gets one trial: open Settings, then Verification, on your dashboard, and the trial can start the moment the check is approved. Then open the Plans page and press Start free trial. The usual eligibility rules apply, including the restricted jurisdictions.

If the account takes a moment to set up, the dashboard says so and the login follows by email.

## What happens when the 14 days end?

When the 14 days are over, the trial ends, the account is switched off and you are told. If a loss limit is reached first, the trial ends on that limit, exactly as a paid Edge 1 Step would. Either way, nothing is owed and nothing is paid.

A sensible use of the time is to practise the routine a paid account will ask of you: find the 17:00 New York rollover on your own clock, know the day's floor before the first trade, and have positions closed before the Friday deadline. The habits in [the daily loss limit, and the hour it resets](https://whitepips.com/blog/the-daily-loss-limit) carry straight over, and [the one-step challenge guide](https://whitepips.com/blog/how-to-pass-a-one-step-challenge) covers the plan as a whole.

## Questions traders ask

**Can I keep the profit I make on the trial?** No. The trial never pays out, whatever the balance shows, and passing it ends the account. What a pass earns is the 20% code.

**Can I run my own expert advisor on it?** Yes, on the same terms as any CFD plan: one you developed, own and control, and can show running. Bought, rented or mass-market bots are not allowed on any plan, however they trade.

**Can I have a second trial if the first one breaches?** No. There is one trial per trader, whatever its result. A paid $100K Edge 1 Step is the same test, at $646.

**Is there a futures trial?** No. The trial is CFDs only. The futures plans, One Step and Instant, are paid accounts.
